someone get me a compressed air can… quick…

Warning! This post and the following photos may offend those who love computers. Also, if you don’t know anything about computers, you might want to read this post instead, only because I want to resurrect the commercial. The post has nothing to do with computers, but rather eggs.

Someone I know and love, who reads this blog and I know they do, because it’s set to the homepage on their browser, I’m not naming names, got this computer just over a year ago. Apparently someone got a virus because their virus subscription ran out and they didn’t inform anyone that they needed to renew. I took the computer home to check it out. I cleaned it out and turned it on. It’s going to the windows screen and then rebooting. I tried to safe-mode it, but it freezes in F8. I tried to boot of the cd-rom and it freezes there as well. I don’t know if the hard-drive is fried or not and I’ve fallen out with a certain friend who used to help me with these things, so I’m on my own right now. On my own means the computer is sitting here, fried or not, waiting for someone to lovingly nurture it back to life.

Before I cleaned it out, I took some photos.

  1. That is some killer dust 🙂

  2. Holy Dust Bunnies!

Seriously, that’s a lot of dust. As a retired computer specialist, as a retired computer repair person, I can tell you from personal experience that 80% of the fried computers I worked on looked just.like.that!

I hope you got it nice and clean. And do it once a month. It won’t hurt it as long as you don’t freeze the board (or anything else) by holding the can nozzle too long in one spot.

If I had an award, I swear I would so give it to you!

    LOL

  3. Javajabber, I actually vaccuumed most of it, then sprayed it. It was quite awful. The fans are caked with grime. Though I know more maintenance should have been done to it, this seemed like a a pretty big mess for only a year. I think this has to do with lack of vaccuuming the carpets, etc, too.

Now, if I could only get it running again.

  4. That’s nothing, the old computers we _had_ at work were basically armored dust bunnies. Guess why we don’t have them now.
Anyway, I suddenly have the urge to clean my keyboard. 😉

  5. […] I got it a week later, looking like this. […]
