Blogger is finally adding categories! This is available through their Beta version, which will be released sometime soon. Also, it’s all going to be tied into my Google account!
The Beta version of Blogger does not apply to those who publish onto their own servers (like mine). So, no new features for me, yet.
How does Blogger in beta affect FTP blogs?
Blogger in beta is based on the concept of dynamic serving. Since people using the FTP or SFTP features are not hosting their blogs on Blog*Spot, they’ll be unable to publish dynamically. We will continue to support FTP publishing in its current state (i.e. static web-pages created by Blogger and transferred to your server). However, new features that depend on dynamic serving will be unavailable to these blogs. For people who wish to take full advantage of all Blogger’s features, we recommend switching to Blog*Spot publishing.
And that’s it. I guess the Great Procrastinated Project will just have to start now. As my blog has grown to over three years of archives, it’s become increasingly difficult to publish my entire blog when I want to change my layout, etc. I added delicious tags in an effort to organize, but really, I should have just changed to WordPress years ago when the blog was small. The thing is, I’m comfortable with Blogger. I have been loyal. Even with less features I had Blogger right where I wanted him. He published the way I wanted him to. But that certain paragraph above has just changed my whole view. As Blogger heads towards their Beta Release Date, I’ll be heading towards my Dump Blogger Date. Finally. It’s like… dropping a bad habit. You like it, but it’s just no good for you.
