Laurie Ann Bender

Laurie Ann Bender (nee Whitford), beloved wife of Arnold Bender of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2005 at the age of 32 years.

Laurie was born on August 23, 1972 in Edmonton, AB. She was a dynamic and vibrant woman, always full of a courage and strength that was used to better the lives of those she touched.

Besides her loving husband Arnold, Laurie is remembered with love by her children, Jacob (six) and Sophie (four); deeply missed by her mother Judy and father Marshall; loving sisters Sandra and Donna; as well as her enormous circle of friends.

In lieu of flowers, an education trust fund has been set up for Jacob and Sophie with the Alberta Treasury Branch called “The Whitford Bender Trust Account”. Donations will be accepted at any ATB throughout Alberta. In living memory of Laurie Bender, a tree will be planted at Nose Creek Valley.

I got a call last Saturday morning from Toogie saying that Laurie had died in her sleep Thursday night. The funeral is tomorrow, which I will not be attending. But I did send condolences to the family. Ever since that call, life and how you live it has been weighing on my mind. We are only here for a short brief time and no one knows when our time will come. I have met Jacob and Sophie and they seemed to have inherited their bubbly personalities from Laurie. I pray that they don’t lose some of that during this time of grief and separation from their mother and I pray that they get even closer with their father during this time.

She fell asleep till it was morning
She dreamt about the girl who stole a horse
Judy never felt so good except when she was sleeping

spinning… judy and the dream of horses – belle and sebastian.
thinking… this song, one of brilliance, made me think of Laurie today, hence the post.
